Everywhere we go French fills the air. Not only French language, but French West Indian Culture, too. Music, dancing, and the incredible scent of French Caribbean cooking is found and experienced in its streets and squares, and it emanates from the windows of warm, friendly locals. Basse-Terre, the western sister of Guadeloupe’s fraternal twin islands, is the larger and more mountainous of the two. Discover coffee and banana plantations shadowed by a towering dormant volcano.
Grande-Terre is Guadeloupe’s principal tourist center. People flock here to explore the sugar white sand on the beaches of Sainte Anne, the views along the northern coastline and the unique Creole architecture in Pointe à Pitre. You, however, are no ordinary tourist. You are a curious, globally aware student looking to influence your worldly perspective by immersing yourself in formal French language studies and hands-on cultural experiences. And Guadeloupe delivers at every turn.
“I found the program overall to be amazing and well organized.” — Susan Herlong, Sullivans Island, SC
The majority of your time will be spent on the southern part of Grande-Terre in Sainte Anne. Side trips to St. Francois on the southeastern shores for a surfing lesson and a sailing getaway to remote outer islands weave a little little fun and escapism into a seriously immersive academic adventure.
