Headquartered in Raleigh, N.C., the Broadreach team is made up of educators, curriculum developers, program designers, operations managers, naturalists and veteran field guides who all share a love of travel and learning from the world. Our team is passionate about designing and delivering educational adventures that help students explore their curiosities, build confidence and find new perspectives.
Carlton grew up with a passion for the outdoors, the ocean and adventure. At the age of 19, he became a PADI Master Diver Instructor and by 23, he had earned his U.S. Coast Guard Masters license. From a young age, Carlton knew he wanted to explore the world, and left a corporate job on Wall Street to pursue his passion. In 1993, Carlton founded Broadreach with a desire to educate students through travel and experiential learning, wanting to design courses that took students out of their comfort zones and into the world.
Although the day-to-day operations are now in the capable hands of our directors and HQ team, Carlton still provides regular guidance and insight. Currently, Carlton lives in Durham with his wife Gina and daughters Peyton, Baylor and Phoebe.

A Colorado native, outdoor enthusiast and world traveler, Jordan started with Broadreach in 2012 leading Spanish, biology and public health programs before joining the HQ team in 2017. Jordan is passionate about Broadreach’s mission and wants to continue to inspire students to gain a better understanding of the world and what it means to be a global citizen.
Kate joined Broadreach as the Marketing + Communications Coordinator. A native of North Carolina, she received her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Elon University. She then spent nearly five years working in a communications role with international and local teachers, as well as many public schools in North Carolina. Kate became so inspired by the work of international educators that she decided to try it for herself in South Korea. Through this adventure, Kate’s dedication to cultural exchange and travel strengthened, and she is excited to continue working with students as they embark on their own global experiences. When she’s not thinking about the next place to explore, Kate is either drinking coffee, spending time outside or dancing at a concert.

Professionally, she has pursued her passion for outdoor education and fitness, while still adventuring throughout the world – hiking the El Camino de Santiago, restoring hiking trails in Greece and teaching English in Spain. When she’s not working to hire summer instructors for Broadreach dive and sail programs, Emily trains for triathlons, does Crossfit, mountain bikes, and is up for anything outside with her dog Stella.
