Which Caribbean Voyage is Right for You?

By: Broadreach HQ High School Adventures, Middle School, Scuba, Sailing, Marine Biology

If you’ve started exploring Broadreach scuba camps or sailing camps in the Caribbean, you’ve probably noticed something: there are a lot of incredible options.

Scuba + sailing. Marine biology. Sailing-only. Advanced diving. Different lengths. Different islands.

So… how do you choose?

Whether you want to earn certifications, explore Caribbean islands, study the ocean, or master life at sail, there’s a Broadreach Caribbean voyage designed for you. Let’s break it down 👇

🤿 What Are Scuba Camps?

Scuba camps are immersive programs where students learn to dive, earn certifications, and explore underwater environments such as coral reefs, shipwrecks, and other marine ecosystems.

Most scuba camps for teens include:

  • Professional dive instruction (no experience needed for beginner programs)
  • Certifications like PADI Scuba Diver, Open Water, or Advanced Open Water
  • Daily dives and skill progression
  • A strong focus on ocean exploration and underwater confidence

At Broadreach, many of our scuba camps also include sailing, so students get the added experience of living aboard a boat while learning to dive.

⛵ What Are Sailing Camps?

Sailing camps focus on teaching students how to operate and navigate boats while building teamwork, leadership, and seamanship skills.

In most sailing camps for teens, students will:

  • Learn to steer, trim sails, and navigate
  • Work as part of a crew to manage the boat
  • Build confidence and independence on the water
  • Spend more time above the surface, traveling between islands

Some sailing camps (like ours) also include snorkeling and water sports, but the primary focus is on sailing skills and life at sea.

🌊 Can You Do Both?

Yes, and that’s exactly what makes our scuba + sailing programs so popular.

Instead of choosing between scuba camps and sailing camps, students can:

  • Learn to dive
  • Learn to sail
  • Live aboard a catamaran
  • Explore multiple Caribbean islands

It’s the best of both worlds, and a great option if you’re not sure which path to choose.

⚓ Scuba and Sailing Voyages (7, 12, or 17 Days)

Best for: First-time adventurers who want the full Broadreach experience

These are our signature programs, and for good reason.

No experience? No problem. You’ll learn both scuba diving and sailing from scratch, all while living aboard a catamaran with a small group (max 12 students).

What they all have in common:

  • Start + end in St. Martin (our Caribbean home base)
  • Live aboard a catamaran 🛥️
  • Learn to dive + sail
  • Tight-knit crew vibes + unforgettable island hopping
  • Trips available for both middle school and high school students

Key differences 👇

Best for: Students who love the ocean and want to go beyond exploring it to understanding it

These programs blend scuba diving, sailing, and marine science into one unforgettable experience.

No experience necessary, just curiosity.

🌊 12-Day Intro to Marine Biology (Middle School)

  • Ideal for: Younger students or first-time travelers
  • Approach: Hands-on, informal, and experiential
  • What to expect:
    • Introductory scuba, sailing and snorkeling (1 scuba and 1 sailing certification)
    • Observing reefs and identifying marine life in real time
    • Learning through exploration, not lectures

Vibe: Exploration-first. Less classroom, more discovery.

🐠 17-Day Marine Biology Voyage (High School)

  • Ideal for: Students ready for deeper learning
  • Academics: College credit opportunity
  • What to expect:
    • Structured marine biology lessons + fieldwork
    • Scuba diving and sailing certifications (2 scuba and 1 sailing certification)
    • Studying reef ecosystems, species identification, and conservation

Because students divide their time between diving, sailing, and academics, they’ll earn fewer dive certifications than the 17-day Scuba + Sailing trip, but gain a deeper understanding of the ocean itself.

Vibe: The perfect balance of adventure + academics
