When applying for a Broadreach program, it is important to understand all of the potential costs involved. All on-trip meals, activities and accommodations are included in tuition. The additional expenses outside of a program’s tuition are outlined below.
AIRFARE
Round-trip airfare to the program destination is not included in the tuition cost. Some programs also have required internal flights that take place during the trip. Contact the Broadreach office for more information about internal flights.
INSURANCE
We require that our participants have travel medical insurance coverage on program and highly recommend plans that also protect your tuition investment in case of cancellation. We offer both types of plans through Trip Mate (one of the industry’s leading providers of travel insurance) and they can be purchased at the time of enrollment.
COLLEGE CREDIT
All students receive academic instruction on academic programs and are expected to participate; however, the cost of the official college credit transcript from Lesley University is not included in the tuition cost. You may opt to pay an additional fee to receive college credit for our academic programs.
GEAR & EQUIPMENT
Due to the nature of the activities on a Broadreach program, there may be gear required for the trip that you may not already own. Most programs require students to bring things such as hiking shoes, rain jacket, sleeping bag, bathing suit and quick dry clothing (i.e. active wear), et cetera. Additionally, you may need to purchase more program specific gear items such as textbooks or binoculars. Although this is by no means an extensive list, it is important to keep this in mind when budgeting for a program. For programs that include scuba diving, equipment is available for rent or purchase from Broadreach.
SPENDING MONEY
Most students bring $100-$150 on program for purchasing personal items and souvenirs while on program. We also recommend putting aside $20-$100 for travel day expenses (i.e. baggage fees, departure taxes, other airline fees and food while in the airport).
ADDITIONAL CERTIFICATIONS
For our sailing and diving programs, all sailing certifications and primary scuba certifications (PADI Open Water Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver and Rescue Diver) are included in the tuition cost. Additional fees may apply for other PADI certifications.
PASSPORT
All students must have a passport to travel on a Broadreach program. It is important to ensure that the passport is valid for a minimum of six months beyond the end date of your program. To avoid fees for expediting, apply for your passport as soon as possible.
TRAVEL VACCINATIONS
Broadreach does not require that students have specific vaccinations for travel; this is a personal choice, and we suggest that you consult your physician, travel clinic or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for advice on any health precautions related to overseas travel. The CDC can be reached at 800-232-4636, or you can visit the CDC website for a complete list of health guidelines and recommendations.
