“That experience of being a Divemaster and working in that position was amazingly helpful and valuable. It is also something that I’ve found has helped me be a better instructor because I had already worked as, essentially, a TA for that position. Further, going directly into my IDC was incredible because everything I had learned during my DIP and working as a divemaster was still fresh in my mind.” Tessa, Broadreach alumna

Itinerary

Day 1-4

All abroad the Broadreach support boat

Welcome to the start of your professional dive journey! Touch down in St. Martin and step onto the Broadreach fleet support boat for a behind-the-scenes experience of dive training in action. Living on board, you’ll assist staff supporting nearby program boats while diving straight into your Divemaster course. From confined water skill circuits to knowledge development and early leadership training, you’ll be strapping on your fins, sharpening your skills, and setting the foundation for the adventure ahead.

Day 5-7

Real students, real learning!

Remember your first day of Open Water? Now it’s your turn to help new divers have that same unforgettable experience. Join Broadreach instructors as they teach beginner students, assisting with group management, demonstrating skills, and encouraging practice. You’ll see your leadership grow dive by dive, then cap off the week by completing your final Divemaster skill assessments. Celebrate with a well-earned break—explore the streets of St. Barts and catch some waves at body surfing beach.

Day 8-11

Learn, do, teach

Next stop: St. Kitts. Here, you’ll put your new skills into action as part of a Broadreach program boat. Shadow instructors above and below the surface while stepping into a teaching role yourself. Lead dives, assist with Advanced Open Water courses, and mentor students who require additional support. With every dive, you’ll build confidence and refine your leadership, transforming from student to professional in real time.

Day 12-18

Divemaster, here you come

It’s time to wrap up your Divemaster certification! Work on an underwater mapping project, refine your dive briefings, and continue honing your leadership skills by supervising dives. Outside the water, explore nearby islands, hike scenic trails, and give back through meaningful community service projects. By the end of this stage, you’ll have more than a certification—you’ll have the skills and confidence to step into the dive industry.

Day 19-25

Off to scuba school!

You’ve leveled up—now it’s time for the Instructor Development Course (IDC). Under the guidance of a PADI Course Director, you’ll dive deep into teaching techniques, safety protocols, and the full PADI system. Switch between the roles of student and instructor during confined and shallow open-water sessions—an experience full of growth, learning, and plenty of laughs along the way.

Day 26-27

Dive industry professional

With the fundamentals of teaching under your belt, the focus shifts to life as a full dive instructor. Learn to teach Emergency First Response (EFR), explore advanced dive courses, and gain insight into the business side of the industry. As classes wrap up, you’ll find yourself reviewing for exams with classmates on the beach—equal parts studying, bonding, and soaking up island life.

Day 28-30

OWSI time

The final challenge is here: your Instructor Exam. The nerves are real, but so is the confidence you’ve built over the past month. Show off your skills to the PADI examiner and step into your new role as an Open Water Scuba Instructor. Then it’s time to celebrate—with your new dive pro family, on a beautiful island, knowing you’ve achieved something incredible.
