Service Hours

Earn 1 PADI Scuba Certification: 

  • PADI Open Water or PADI Advanced Open Water

What You’ll Learn:

  • Go beyond recreational diving by participating in real conservation efforts.
  • Learn how marine scientists monitor reef health and help protect marine ecosystems.
  • Participate in hands-on activities covering coral reef ecology, fish identification, marine biodiversity, and conservation techniques.
  • Learn about Belize’s diverse ecosystems through guided nature hikes, a visit to the zoo, and adventure activities.

Two hours of service learning through community-based projects.

Requirements: 

  • Available to students completing sixth, seventh or eighth grade who are at least 13 years old by program start.
  • Must complete Open Water E-learning.
  • No additional experience necessary.

Itinerary

Day 1-2

Welcome to Belize: Wildlife Encounters

Begin your Belize adventure by meeting your fellow students and Broadreach staff before exploring the country’s incredible wildlife at the Belize Zoo. Then travel south where the rainforest meets the Caribbean and your jungle adventure awaits!

Days 3-6

Into the Rainforest

Spend 4 nights in the heart of a protected national park. Hike to waterfalls, swim in natural pools, soar through the canopy on Belize’s longest zipline, and experience waterfall rappelling while discovering Belize’s incredible rainforest biodiversity.

Day 7-10

Life on the Belize Barrier Reef

Trade the jungle for reefs. Board a boat for ReefCI’s private island field station and settle into life on the Belize Barrier Reef. Earn your PADI Open Water or Advanced Open Water certification while exploring vibrant coral reefs and gaining hands-on experience in marine conservation, including fish and coral identification, reef ecology, lionfish management, and conservation research.

Day 11-12

Reflection + Farewell

Return toward Belize City for a final day of relaxation, nature exploration, and celebration with your group. Reflect on your adventures and return home with new dive skills, conservation experience, lifelong friendships, and unforgettable memories of Belize’s reef and rainforest ecosystems.
