Welcome to What’s Up!
What’s Up can be a fun way to gain a little insight into your teen’s trip from group activities to funny stories and challenges, and it’s a great way to discover the personalities of group members. Each group will have unique updates. Typically groups choose to have a different participant, usually the “Leader of the Day,” write the update each day, while other groups choose to write their entries together as a group. Some groups will write long and interesting updates, while others will choose to write brief and less informative updates. Each group will focus on different aspects of their trip, such as food, friends, academics and/or culture.
First, we want to share our expectations on What’s Up. The updates are really not intended to be anything more than a fun way to follow a trip. Please understand that they are not meant to be a key communication tool between parent and child. Updates may be posted more or less frequently based on a number of factors from computer equipment to internet connections and time constraints. We ask that you are patient when waiting for updates. We believe that the priority for our program staff should be their group, course goals and safety, and we feel certain you agree. Their days are extremely long and exhausting from 6am to 11pm nonstop with up to 14 teens, and sometimes this can delay posting the updates. Please do not call our office when updates are missing
The group’s activities and locations will have a large part in determining the length and content for each update. Course leaders or Caribbean Director Assistants will be posting updates from their program location, which may be extremely difficult at times. While we would love to post daily updates, it is not always possible due to our international locations and the challenge of finding internet connections. Also, course leaders or Caribbean Director Assistants may post several updates at one time in order to backfill daily postings, and parents should not be alarmed if some updates are missing, or if they are even 7 or 8 days behind. Eventually, you’ll get the opportunity to see all the entries, and they will still be fun to read, even if the news is a few days old!
You can receive an automatic email notification whenever a new update has been posted for a trip. We have already added the "parent email address" provided to us on your application to our What’s Up notification system. You can add names onto My Broadreach or you can drop us an email at friendsandfamily@gobroadreach.com with the name of the participant, trip code and any email addresses you want added.
Please note: We do not feel it is a priority for our office to chase down updates. Some lucky families will have updates every 3-4 days and others may receive them once a week or even longer. Please do not call the office about missing updates
We hope you’ll enjoy What’s Up! Broadreach teens have some incredible adventures!
