An amazing last dive!
|
Day 23
Today was the first day we got to sleep in later than 8 a.m. Most people woke up around 9:30 which is at least an hour and a half later than usual and they were grateful. We had a breakfast of bananas, toast with peanut butter and jelly and rice bubbles. We had a really relaxing morning while people sat around and played some card games on the porch until 11 when we left for town to eat lunch. Instead of sandwiches we ate either chicken and rice or fish and chips, and of course, the local BBC, before heading to the dive shop.
We put together our BCDs and regulators and headed out for our last day of diving for the whole trip. We went out on the dive boats and hit up one of the favorite dive spots in Gizo...Grand Central Station. Everyone descended together for a group dive.
As soon as we got beneath the water the action started. We saw four huge reef sharks off the edge of the wall. We drifted along and the dive continued to get better and better. During the whole dive there were 3 mantas trailing us. We also saw a stingray and two spotted eagle rays. On our way back we saw many more sharks and a sea turtle. It was by far the best dive of the trip! It was an AMAZING last dive and a perfect note to end on.
After the dive we went to the telecom building and people either made some phone calls or emailed friends before heading back to our pad. Hannah, Nicky, and Kristin started to prepare the final dinner we would cook at Paradise Lodge. We made a chicken noodle vegetable stir-fry so it was a long complicated process of chopping up veggies, boiling chicken, opening cans and putting then all into a frying pan with oil and soy sauce.
While we were preparing the dinner it started to rain. Il pleut! Austin, Zanege, Gregoir, Kimmay Shimmay, and Chelsea decided to go outside for some mud wrestling which turned into a full on mud war. Everyone was very wet and dirty by the end of it. Dinner turned out to be delicious and everyone had a great day. But the clean up crew had A LOT to clean up after the chefs finished in the kitchen. Love, Your L.O.D., Kristin
