Duck duck village

Day 19
Today our day got off to a great start when a wonderful breakfast of scrambled eggs and toast was cooked up by Hannah, Chelsea, and Alex. This is becoming a staple for us which is good since everyone loves it!
After breakfast the group departed Paradise Lodge and headed off to the dive shop. Some people called home to say hi to their parents and others went to the bank to exchange money to buy souvenirs. However, today was different from the past few days. Instead of leaving the shop and heading for beautiful coral walls and wrecks, we left and headed for Saeraghi Village. One of our divemasters, Bradley, is from this village so he drove our boat there and worked as our guide. Once we got to the village we were given a tour by some of the locals who live there, including the chairman or spokesperson of the village. They showed us how they prepare many of the local food in an above ground oven, we learned how to make head dresses and baskets out of palm fronds, we played with some wild parrots they had caught and are keeping as pets and finally we bonded with the local village kids as we played a game of soccer. Though everyone played well Nick, Kristen, Zane, Greg and James played a great offensive game and managed to score enough goals for us to win the game. After soccer we took a quick dip to cool off and then went right back to playing with the kids. This time our game of choice was duck duck goose. I never knew playing this game could be so much fun and the little kids really enjoyed it.
Next it was time to eat a lovely lunch home made by the local women. The meal was fabulous and after lunch we all handed out candy and toys to all of the children. They were very excited by there new play things and it was fun to see them all running around wearing the stickers we had just given them. To cool off, we all went dugout canoe racing and swimming again. While in the ocean Austin, Kristen, and Hannah, and David had a difficult time keeping there canoe afloat, whereas Harrison and Greg managed to stay nice and dry. After we left the village, many of us went shopping for food for dinner. We settled on two large, fresh tunas.
Back at the lodge, the tunas were cooked up by Harrison, Leland, David, and James. Alex was excited to be able to cut the head off one of the fish even though he wasn’t a cook. Dinner was fantastic! After dinner Kimmy, Chelsea, and Kristen surprised the group with a cake that they snuck off to make under Monica and James’s direction. Overall today was a very unique and interesting day that all of us are sure to remember.
