An intense diving day!
|
Day 11
Everyone was excited to start our first full day in Munda. Our cabins sit on the gorgeous ocean. The cabins are in a prime location; the ocean, market, restaurant, and dive shop are all a stones throw away. I woke up early with Monica to get buns for breakfast. Everyone else woke up around 7:30 to get ready for an intense day of diving.
After eating breakfast, we set up our dive gear. After hearing the dive briefings, we were more than ready to get back into the beautiful ocean that surrounds us. We split into two groups. My group, the blue team, consisted of me, Kristin, Greg, Zane, Harrison, David, and James. The other group, the yellow team, is Kim, Alex, Nick, Leland, Austin, Chelsea, and Monica.
The diving was amazing. I speak for most of the group when I say that we experienced the best diving of our lives today. The water in the Solomons is like bath water. Nobody wore wet suits. One of the dives was called Shark Point, which speaks for itself. Today we saw dozens of sharks. We even got a chance to see how to call sharks. We discovered schools of barracuda, spotted eagle rays, and an extreme diversity of fish and coral. The diving is world-class. It is so wonderful to be able to enjoy such amazing diving.
After the first dive, we had a surface interval on an island all to ourselves. We splashed around in the ocean, played Frisbee, ate lunch, and played games for a couple hours. Some of us raced each other along the beach, while others ventured around the deserted island.
The second dive was just as outstanding as the first. I don’t know how scuba-diving can get any better than what we experienced today. Everyone was extremely excited to share stories about what they had seen on their dives.
We returned to our cabins for an open afternoon of chilling. We went to the bank to exchange our money. Some of us went to the market for snacks. We lied out on the dock and hung out until we had a deep dive lecture with Monica. It was hard for some of us to pay attention with the striking ocean view behind us.
After the lecture we took showers and got ready for dinner. Some of us sat along the ocean-side and chatted.
Dinner was great, again. After dinner we did glums and glows. Our days have been filled with so many glows and very few glums. It was great to have a relaxed day with insane scuba diving. We are so lucky to be able to experience a day like this. Watch out family, you may never get us back!
