Jumping from one day to the next!
|
Day 9
Today we had a late start to the day after a late night of hanging out with the locals in Qeleni village. We ate a delicious breakfast that was prepared by some of the villagers and had a chance to see their local handicrafts. There were plenty of patterned tapa cloths to choose from to bring home for souvenirs or gifts. Afterwards we had to say goodbye to our new friends from the village.
After leaving the Qeleni village we made a stop at the oldest church on Taveuni. The group looked around the church and then headed for the International Date Line. Everyone had tons of fun jumping from one day to the next.
The group then left the date line and headed for the natural waterfall slides. After a short walk we reached the river. Because of all the rainfall in the past few days the slides were rushing. Hannah, Greg, David, Chelsea, Kristin, and Zane had a blast shooting down the waterslides.
Before we left for the airport we stopped by Aquaventure to pick up our dive bags and wetsuits and spend one last lunch with our good friends in Taveuni. The Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches were delicious as always. Sadly this was our last day at the dive shop and in Taveuni. We then departed for the airport.
Unfortunately our flight was delayed about 3 hours so James gave us a specialty lecture while we waited in Taveuni. Kimmy and Monica went ahead on the earlier plane so we met them once we finally arrived in Nadi. After arriving we started to wash our damp, smelly, moldy clothes and took showers. Then we went out to dinner for pizza. It was an amazing and very filling meal. Nicky even whipped out his “British” accent to ask for a pitcher of water.
After dinner we ended our day with glums and glows, Austin showed us some of her amazing dance skills, and Harrison, Leland, Nick, and Alex had a few good games of darts and pool. Although some of us stayed up a little later finishing up our huge loads of laundry, overall it was an amazing day and our experiences in Fiji have been unforgettable. Love, Kristin Saksa
