Hello from Paradise!
|
Day 5
Bula (hello) from paradise, a.k.a. Fiji. It has truly begun to sink in that we are in paradise, the ultimate escape from the ordinary into a realm of dreams and tranquility that are as clear as the waters we dive in. After a great night of sleep, the members of FSQ2 woke up somewhat earlier than expected to cereal and toast. Breakfast couldn’t be possible without the amazing cooking of Greg and Leland. It’s also hard to mess up cereal and toast but seriously, hats off to them.
After that we headed down to the dive shop for the first of several 3 dive days. We left the dock on two separate boats, “Taveuni Estates Yacht” - headed by Monica and “Unplugged” by James. James group consisted of Austin, Leland, Nick, Greg, Kristin and Alex continued their streak of good luck on dives by seeing a couple of white tip reef sharks, another black and white banded sea snake, a humphead parrot fish and a lionfish.
I was in Monica’s group with Harrison, David, Kimberly, Chelsea and Hannah and we saw our first shark and a sweet lionfish. Between dives we hung out on a beach, where Austin and Harrison continued reading the new Harry Potter. Meanwhile Nick, Hannah, Alex, Kristin, Kimberly, and Zane attempted to beat all the dive masters in volleyball (and failed miserably, but had a blast the whole time), with Chelsea and David providing support from the sidelines.
Back at our luxurious hideaway we logged dives and completed the obligatory paperwork (aagh!) before heading off to the best dinner in a long time at a place called Coconut Grove. Who goes on Broadreach and gets to eat lasagna, beef chop suey, pork fried rice, coconut fish ceviche and banana bread? We do! This trip is off to an amazing start and none of us can wait for the surprises that await us tomorrow. Off to bed! Zane Grodman
