Let the diving begin!

Day 4
Hey everyone,
Today was our first day of diving and of having the whole group together at last. Hannah and our other counselor Monica arrived in Taveuni today due to some flight complications out of the states.
To start off the morning, Leland and Greg made cheese eggs and toast which we all scarfed down in seconds. After we were split into 2 dive groups, we headed off for our first check-out dive on Dolphin’s Reef and Dodo’s Reef. The first group is Nicky, Greg, Kristen, Austin, Alex and Leland, while the other group is Chelsea, Kimmy, David, Zane, Hannah and Harrison.
We ran through some of our dive skills underwater which was nice since some of us haven’t been in the water in a while. During our surface interval we headed back to Aquaventure where the dive shop owner, Jimmy, provided hot chocolate, fruit, cookies, juice and more; everything was delicious!
Once our bellies were full, we hopped back on our two dive boats and set off for dive number two. My group saw some really cool sharks and a turtle that came floating by.
After diving, we chilled on a nearby beach and played Frisbee, smash ball and ate some peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Then came birdie-on-a-perch: the intense game where the birdies fly around the perches and have to jump on the perches as soon as the name of the game is called. Sounds confusing, but it’s really just a game that gets everyone moving, and laughing. Our champions were the gifted Kristen and the newest member of our group, Hannah.
After washing up and taking showers, we headed down to the local market to buy sulus, the local skirt/kilt garment and also breakfast food for tomorrow. We all decided that Leland got the best sulu because his has a giant image of Bob Marley across the front. We had more downtime, getting to know everyone a bit better while hanging out in our cabins at Bibi’s Hideaway. To finish off our first full day, we walked about 10 minutes down the one and only road on the island to a small curry house. It was unbelievably good and a first taste of curry for a few of us! Just like yesterday, we are all sooooo jetlagged and can’t wait to go to bed (it’s like 8:00!). Much love from all of us down here in Fiji, Nicky
