Welcome to Broadreach and Academic Treks summer trip journals! We hope you’ll check in on a regular basis to read about our adventures while they are happening.

How summer trip journals work:

Everyday someone from each trip writes a trip journal/blog update on their staff leaders’ laptop. The staff leaders then post the updates to our website, including photos whenever possible.

Email notification
Parents automatically receive an email notification any time a new update is posted to their teen’s trip journal. If you have friends and family who would like to receive update notifications, there are two easy ways to include them.

That’s it! Now a note will be posted to your Facebook feed each time a new update is posted to your program’s trip journal.

Important information about trip updates:

Updates are written by the participants
All trip updates are written by the participants with the exception of Underwater Discoveries, Underwater Discoveries Advanced and Underwater Discoveries Explorer. On these trips, our Course Director Assistants write the updates for technological and logistical reasons.

Since updates are written by the participants… Topics discussed, writing style and grammar will depend on the individual students and limits to the group’s schedule, and may not be what you expect. Spelling and punctuation errors, as well as teen vernacular may be commonplace, and kids tend to write more details on food and friendships rather than the activities. The group may not write updates every day for any number of reasons. Keep in mind that although the trip journal is often a high priority for parents, it is not always for students.

Updates are generally posted every 3-4 days
The frequency of updates varies from program to program due to itinerary, busy schedules, internet logistics and location. Often our staff will post several updates at a time. Our staff understands your desire to hear news, but the kids come first. We believe that the priority for our program staff should be their group, course goals and safety, and we feel certain you agree. As difficult as it may be, we ask that you be patient when waiting for updates and read them within the framework of their intended purpose…a fun way to follow a trip rather than a key communication tool between parent and child.

Please do not call the Broadreach office about updates
The office has no control over the frequency or quality of the updates. They are written and posted on program. If you have not seen an update in several days, try to be patient. Our office staff is very busy in the summer helping families and staff with travel and program logistics.

Expect to be jealous
Reading about your teen’s adventures may make you wish you were a teen again!
