Day 1
I am in route and my nerves are burning with anticipation. I did Broadreach last year and I had the time of my life, and I can only hope Honduras will harbor memories as fond as those that I already posses. You never know quite what to expect at first, especially when you're flying on a plane by yourself with nothing but a good book in hand and your thoughts. Deep down I know everything will be smooth and the trip a blast, so I will try to relax now, because as soon a I get there I don't want to waste anytime before meeting my new companions and starting the fun. My flight into Miami is landing soon, so I should check the gate numbers one last time. Next time I write I will be deep in the mountains of Honduras with my new family. Hasta Luego, I hope my Spanish doesn't fail me now!
We just arrived at Iguana Azul, Copan. After a twelve-hour travel day my thirteen companions (Ivan, Alex, Jesse, Maya, Bryce, Jackie, Danielle, Michelle, Samantha, Jana, Mike, Susie Sunshine and Adam Baske) and I were completely out of it. I was really excited to see Adam (Broadreach Leader) at the Airport at San Pedro Sula. He was my leader last year on Broadreach, and I know how much fun he can be. Also joining us for the first leg of the trip is Jorge, our naturalist, Julia, Jorge's associate and friend, and Carlos our kami bus driver. So far as I can tell the country has a long way to go before having the kind of standard of living that we as Americans have come to enjoy, but that is a reason why I think we are all here. We can learn from their culture and experience it as much as we can, growing an appreciation for what we all have while we are surrounded by so much poverty. I have three weeks to think of such things, but for now we are all retiring to our rooms after our first group meeting. I have made many new friends already, and I am very excited with how our group seems to be coming together already. Gotta run. We have glums and glows to attend to. Bye.
