Our leaders are the best you’ll find… One of Broadreach’s core strengths.

They are experiential educators and experts in their field from PhD’s to professional scuba instructors, Royal Yacht Masters and wilderness professionals. Each has a dedication to educational travel and a passion to lead, mentor and offer teens valuable insights into the world around them.

Meet Carlton:
Carlton Goldthwaite, Founder and Program Director, grew up with a passion for the outdoors, the ocean, traveling in foreign lands and adventure. He became a PADI Master Diver Instructor at the young age of 19 and earned his U.S. Coast Guard Masters license at 23. After graduating from Lehigh University, Carlton focused his energy on designing and directing educational adventure programs for teens. The business world beckoned, and Carlton spent several years working on Wall Street, but ultimately he decided to return to the field of experiential education. He founded Broadreach in 1993 based on his principles and passions from his years of experience leading teenagers in the field, teaching, sailing the seas, traveling in foreign lands and living among the vast diversity of people and cultures that make up our world.
His goal has been to share those life experiences to foster the passions of the next generation of tomorrows leaders. Each summer you’ll find Carlton leading trips in the Caribbean. The rest of the year he lives in Raleigh with his wife Gina and daughters Peyton, Baylor and Phoebe. As the parent of three young girls, he says “I cannot wait for them to have the opportunity to go on Broadreach and see the world and themselves on different terms.”
