Return from Beqa

Today was our last morning spent in the village. Everyone woke up to a 5am wake up call of drums beating at the church, a 6am preaching of the choir, and finally a 7am cockadoodleling of the roosters. Let’s just say we all woke up fresh and ready for the day! Once we actually all had gotten ready we were presented with a traditional Fijian breakfast made by our families to send us off on a good note. Then each of the individual pairs made their way to home base (Papa’s house) where we waited for the news of where the boat would be picking us up. Turned out that we got to take a little bit of a nature walk to the beach just in front of the resort a little ways away to where the boat was getting us. As we reached the beach we did get a little more time to play with the children who had made this mornings trek with us.

As we made our way back to the dive shop we all sat taking in the vanishing island where we were leaving our new families. We then headed over to the villa where everyone spent a little bit of time unpacking and freshening up from our days away. Our entire group agreed that this was probably weather wise the best day we have had so far. None of us saw any rain and we spent most of the time laying in the sun soaking up some much needed vitamin D. Although some of us forgot the benefits of sunscreen and forgot how strong the sun was here in Fiji. Pretty much some of us ended up with a very night red ‘tan’ that made us seem like relatives of a cooked lobster. Not so great! But most of us can say that this was definitely one of our most sunny and relaxing days here.

During the afternoon we did take time from soaking up some rays to be given our last lecture before our final examination in 2 days. We then got some time to do our assigned homework and reading then prepared dinner. We ended the night with some time to do our final projects and socialize and cherish our last couple of days we have here!
