Hiking a Mountain!

Ahoy Matey!

Today we awoke excited for our adventure to land to hike a mountain in a National Park. After eating delicious veggie/egg omelets made by the sweethearts Andrea and Rachael, we swabbed the decks and dingy’ed over to St. Kitts. We were all humbled by the people and housing situations. We were also surprised to see no speed limit signs and how locals drove like they were racing NASCAR. After purchasing fresh cold water with Carib money, we started our hike up to The Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park. A little birdie (cough Will cough) told us about a good shortcut to the top. What he left out was it was a very steep incline, but we all powered up, embracing the physical activity.

After exploring the ruins of a fortress with cannons stationed at all angles, we had lecture and learned about fish, sharks, and other invertebrates. When we arrived back at the boat we all embraced a siesta (a nap Spanish people take after lunch to improve digestion and close their shops). After our nap, we geared up and dove down to the biggest reef we’ve been at yet. That dive concluded our underwater naturalist specialty!
Being very tired from our excursions today we ate dinner, cleaned, and we were out like lights. Shout out to the parents for letting us come out here and make friendships that led to a big lovable family!

-Nikki
