Day 1–5
Belize is a tropical paradise and home to one of the Caribbean’s richest marine environments. A magical underwater world lies only feet from the shore of our island home. Never been diving? Don’t worry, it’s easy and you’ll learn how one step at a time. Earn your PADI Open Water Diver certification that will allow you to explore Belize’s amazing reefs. We cover a range of topics and skill building activities from mastering neutral buoyancy and Boyle’s Law to underwater navigation and fish ID. If you are already a certified diver, dive right in to find schools of jacks and schoolmaster snappers, as well as spotted eagle rays and hawksbill turtles playing around colorful coral walls. Combine 100-foot visibility with spectacular marine protected areas and there is no telling what you will uncover around the next coral corner!
Day 6–8
Our boat moves quietly through the marine wilderness, allowing us to access pristine ecosystems and explore remote areas. The world famous Great Blue Hole is a limestone sinkhole nearly 1,000 feet across, ringed by a fringing reef that drops off into the abyss. Jump in to discover stands of brightly colored corals, giant green anemones and a dazzling array of fish. Visit Half Moon Caye, a beautiful little island that is a Belize National Monument, a World Heritage Site and home to 98 species of birds including ospreys, pelicans and over 4,000 endangered red-footed booby birds.
Day 9–13
Ready to dry off, we travel to the heart of Costa Rica’s thriving jungles. Here we focus on “guiding in the outdoors” with instruction from expert naturalists, rafting guides and vaqueros as we explore the backcountry on horseback. Soar through a rainforest canopy on a zip line, explore a working ranch and rappel 90 feet into a magnificent river canyon. The Sarapiquí is the ideal river to master the technical skills of rafting, and we learn about haystacks, hydraulics, eddy hopping, whitewater rescue and side surfing techniques. Scout the rapids, then guide your raft down world famous whitewater.
Day 14–17
Hearts race as we take on Costa Rica's most exhilarating whitewater on an overnight rafting trip down the Class IV rapids of the world renowned Rio Pacuare. Camp under the stars and fall asleep to jungle and river sounds, then hike out of the river gorge and through the La Amistad National Park, the largest single protected area in Costa Rica. Visit an indigenous community and learn about the traditional customs and history of the Cabecar tribe. Enjoy lunch in another small village and play soccer with the locals. Ready for more adventure, we head back to our rafts and tackle the remaining rapids of the Pacuare's lower section.
Day 18–24
The islands off Panama's Pacific coast feature some of Central America's best surfing spots that are only accessible by boat. Whether you are a first-timer or already an accomplished surfer, our surf clinics teach you everything you need to know to rapidly improve your skills. We spend the first day refining the basics: paddling, choosing the perfect wave, dropping in and turning. Learn how the bottom contour, tides and weather affect a wave's shape and behavior. Living on a boat helps us understand the ocean better, which helps our surfing. Before long you are perfecting your turns and cutbacks. We end our epic journey with a dugout canoe trip up the Chagras River to the jungle home of an Embra village. It is amazing to see their ancient culture and traditions thrive so close to modern society. As we watch our final sunset over the Pacific, we reflect on the many adventures and new skills learned on our unforgettable journey together.
