St. Kitts Veterinary Experience

Introduction to Veterinary Science

Map

Covered in rainforest. Blessed with sugar crop. Surrounded by wildlife. Ripe for hands-on achievement. On this green volcanic island, wild vervet monkeys play in the interior rainforest. Hummingbirds flutter all the way up the imposing Mount Liamuiga. Goats roam not too far from the lively capital of Basseterre. The elusive mongoose plays it coy. And tropical fish abound on its pristine, virgin coral reefs, just a few miles from shore. But those are just the outdoor animals.

The ones you came to see are at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. The campus is located just north of Basseterre — the beating heart of St. Kitts. Step beyond the lab to discover an authentic Caribbean town lined with white colonial homes with balconies that overlook the action below. The whole scene feels transplanted from a simpler time. When class lets out, venture to Brimstone Hill, a 17th century fortress on the northwestern coast, and escape to Nevis.

“This trip was definitely worth it! The locations were beautiful especially the hike and the fortress on St. Kitts was really cool as well.” — Ashley Watkins, Lubbock, TX

Nevis, St. Kitts’ sister island, is St. Kitts in miniature. Beaches. Hiking. Historic plantations. Plus a color clash of crystal blue water, powder white sand and ultra-green rainforest. It’s all the beauty of St. Kitts in a smaller, more concentrated size. Learn about animals. Learn about yourself.
