On Isla Bastimentos, a quick boat ride from Bocas del Toro on the Caribbean coast, we start off with the basics of digital photography and camera operation as we explore the art of taking evocative pictures. Then, we head back to mainland Panama and venture to the hip, western city of Boquete — where the technical aspects of taking photos get put to the test. This area, on the Caldera River, is ready for its close up.
No studio, or Photoshopped-in backdrop can approximate the natural beauty found on Isla de Coiba. Located in the Gulf of Chiriquí off Panama’s Pacific Coast, this former penal colony and now UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a a bio-diverse playground and an aspiring photographer’s dream. It’s a haven for crested eagles and scarlet macaws. Turtles swim in its lagoons and 30 varieties of bats call this place home. Trust us, you will not run out of subject matter to shoot.
The photography principles we’ve been studying and practicing all along, come into full view in the mountain village of Santa Fe. Located in the province of Veraguas, it’s the perfect setting to apply all the knowledge and turn our image bank into a portfolio of professional images.
