Set your f-stop to incredible. On Isla Bastimentos, a quick boat ride from Bocas del Toro on the Caribbean coast, we start off with the basics of digital photography and camera operation as we explore the art of taking evocative pictures. Then, we head back to mainland Panama and venture to the hip, western city of Boquete — where the technical aspects of taking photos get put to the test. This area, on the Caldera River, is ready for its close up.
No studio, or Photoshopped-in backdrop can approximate the natural beauty found on Isla de Coiba. Located in the Gulf of Chiriquí off Panama’s Pacific Coast, this former penal colony and now UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a a bio-diverse playground and an aspiring photographer’s dream. It’s a haven for crested eagles and scarlet macaws. Turtles swim in its lagoons and 30 varieties of bats call this place home. Trust us, you will not run out of subject matter to shoot.
The photography principles we’ve been studying and practicing all along, come into full view in the mountain village of Santa Fe. Located in the province of Veraguas, it’s the perfect setting to apply all the knowledge and turn our image bank into a portfolio of professional images.
What are my next steps?
Panama
Mountains and beaches frame a humming Central American metropolis and untold natural riches.
This country of contrasts sits at the divide between two oceans and continents. What better place to learn photography while earning college credit.
Bocas del Toro
Rainforest, pristine snorkeling reefs, blue-green waters and a tropical Caribbean atmosphere. Yes, this is Panama.
Boquete
In the highlands near the Barú volcano, Lush Boquete is the opposite of Panama City. Green mountains, hiking, climbing, and white-water rivers are a great place to take on a photo challenge.
Isla de Coiba
One of 38 islands in a chain that makes up Coiba National Park.Expand your portfolio as well as your appreciation of nature.
Panama City
Panama’s heartbeat is thumping in this capital of everything. Finance, fine dining, museums, architecture, music, and of course… The canal. Cross into adventure.
Santa Catalina
World-class surfing on the Chiriqui Gulf. Dive in and wait for your wave. Or better yet, grab your camera and wait for your shot.
Santa Fe
Look out over all that you have accomplished. This tiny town in the mountains and clouds of the Veraguas province is designed for reflection. The “real” Panama. Rural, quiet and welcoming.
