Itinerary
Day 1-5
Dive right into underwater thrills on Belize.
Belize is a tropical paradise and home to one of the Caribbean’s richest marine environments. A magical underwater world lies only feet from the shore of our island beach house. Never been diving? Don’t worry, it’s easy and you’ll learn how one step at a time. Earn your PADI Open Water Diver certification that will allow you to explore Belize’s amazing reefs. We cover a range of topics and skill building activities from mastering neutral buoyancy and Boyle’s Law to underwater navigation and fish ID. If you are already a certified diver, dive right in to find schools of jacks and schoolmaster snappers, as well as spotted eagle rays and hawksbill turtles playing around colorful coral walls. Combine 100-foot visibility with spectacular marine protected areas and there is no telling what you will uncover around the next coral corner!
Day 6-8
Commune with 4,000 endangered booby birds.
The world famous Great Blue Hole is a limestone sinkhole nearly 1,000 feet across, ringed by a fringing reef that drops off into the abyss. It is snorkeling paradise. Jump in to discover stands of brightly colored corals, giant green anemones and a dazzling array of fish. Visit Half Moon Caye, a beautiful little island that is a Belize National Monument, a World Heritage Site and home to 98 species of birds including ospreys, pelicans and over 4,000 endangered red-footed booby birds.
Day 9-12
Ropes Rappelling and River Canyons
From the Caribbean islands of Belize we travel to the jungle covered mountains of Costa Rica. Get a peek of the Pacific Ocean from the trail and stand in awe at the base of the tallest waterfall in Costa Rica. A short hike brings the group to our new home – a giant open air cave behind two waterfalls! It is rustic, but there are beds, bathrooms, and a kitchen that make it surprisingly comfortable. Once settled in our new mountain home we begin a technical rope rescue certification. If it sounds intimidating, don’t worry, no experience is needed and you will learn all about rappelling, knot typing, how to perform rescues in fun scenarios while exploring the mountain canyons. You will even earn your Emergency First Responder certification.
Day 13-16
Rafting skills on the Rio Pacuare.
Plenty of people raft the Pacuare River in Costa Rica, but this adventure isn’t simply floating down a river on a tour. Grab a paddle and learn introductory skills to actually guide a whitewater raft down a river. First, we hone our paddle skills on the Rio Pejibaye. We practice on fun class II rapids and through the International Rafting Federation (IRF) trainee guide certification course we learn rafting techniques and rapid theory. Become familiar with the equipment, raft leadership, signals, and emergency procedures. Then, hearts race as we take on Costa Rica's most exhilarating whitewater on an overnight rafting trip down the rapids of the world renowned Rio Pacuare. A permanent eco-camp facility has comfy beds and huge meals, and before you know it you will be falling asleep to the sounds of the jungle. Ready for more rapids, we head back to our rafts and tackle the remaining rapids of the Pacuare's lower section.
Day 18-24
Learn to surf on Panama’s Pacific coast.
The islands off Panama's Pacific coast feature some of Central America's best surfing spots that are only accessible by boat. Whether you are a first-timer or already an accomplished surfer, our surf clinics teach you everything you need to know to rapidly improve your skills. We spend the first day refining the basics: paddling, choosing the perfect wave, dropping in and turning. Learn how the bottom contour, tides and weather affect a wave's shape and behavior. Before long you are perfecting your turns and cutbacks. We live in cabins on an uninhabited island in Coiba National Park, explore 24 secret surf breaks, snorkel with whales, and go deep sea fishing on the famous Hannibal bank. As we watch our final sunset over the Pacific, we reflect on the many adventures and new skills learned on our unforgettable journey together.
