Day 0-0

The excitement begins before you ever get on a plane. Let the preparation begin. Your team, guided by your Broadreach leader, will get the group scheming and dreaming about the upcoming adventures. Explore guidebooks, scour websites, download smartphone apps, make a personal trip blog, practice some survival Spanish, pack your bag and hold on tight!

Day 1-5

You meet your team for the first time at the San Jose airport in Costa Rica, but it already feels like you know each other. With help from the Broadreach leader you collect your bags, flag a taxi, and use your Spanish skills to direct the driver to the hotel. That night, around the dinner table, you compare notes and review the plan for the next few days. Tour the American Embassy, learn the fundamentals of safe travel, and review emergency procedures. Now on to the fun stuff. To get you started, Broadreach has already planned your first adventure: a spectacular 2-day white water rafting trip. But it’s up to you and your team to decide how to get there.

Day 6-14

Still reveling from the first adventure with your new friends, you are already searching for what is next. Your leader is guiding the planning process in the beginning, but as confidence builds the Broadreach leader transitions into a fellow teammate. The team decides where to travel next. Maybe you cross paths with another Costa Rica team and trade stories and ideas. Then off on a bus-ride to a secret black sand beach, or winding your way to a tiny off-the-beaten track village. Pick from a library of Broadreach resources to find the coolest hostel on the beach or most authentic Tico town. Learn to make chocolate, weave a hammock, or seek more thrills by rappelling down waterfalls or hiking through rainforests. Exploration is the theme and communication is the key. Take a break to volunteer for a couple of days, and begin planning for the next big challenge… Panama!

Day 15-22

You cross the border into Panama and have one week to get to Panama City. The only problem? Too many possibilities for adventure and not enough time. The Broadreach leader now steps even further into the background, always observing for safety concerns, but allowing the team to completely design the journey. Does the island paradise of Bocas del Toro grab the group’s attention? Or the adventure playground of Boquete? Or culture immersion with an Emberá tribe? These choices involve budgeting, transportation logistics, availability, and group consensus. This is real-deal independent travel and whatever options you choose will leave you belly-laughing your way through Panama, figuring it out, and making incredible memories with your new friends.

Day 23-23

As you take the last bus ride to the airport your reflections wander, you realize how far you have come, how much you have learned. You feel the world at your fingertips. You emerge as a smart, confident traveler with adventures in hand, lifelong friends and stories yet to be told.
